Final Blog Part 2

I forgot my reflection!

So, I've had a really great year this year in video productions and I feel like I accomplished a lot. I started off the year with the goal of learning motion, and I feel like I mastered all of it's 2-d functions to the point where I've used it effectively in almost every subsequent project I have done (I used it exclusively on the Three Sailors, which I think was a feat.) I am super proud of all the projects I did, especially the intros and outros for the second set of video announcements, which I think were really good. I think that with every project I did I demonstrated further learning, and now my videos I think are very polished. The bouncy ball video I did, and the current guerilla film I am doing look great and I just think overall I did exactly what I wanted to do this year. I am going to continue in college hopefully, if I can get a hold of a copy of motion, and maybe look into after effects too.

FINAL POST

Dates of outside filming:

6/1 Talent Show
5/30 State track meet

So I edited stuff for the guerilla film and it looks AWESOME! We start out with a fake trailer for an action movie and it looks great. We are filming it like you are watching TV, complete with this trailer at the beginning as commercial for an action film. Anyways, I'm not sure what else I am supposed to put in my final blog, but, yeah.

June 1st

Today we filmed for our guerilla fest. We finished filming and I transferred over all my stuff, so next class we're good to go.

May 28

Today I got in my group for the guerilla film fest and we decided that we are going to do a documentary about wingdings as if it were a PBS show, and I think we've got some pretty creative ways to incorporate all the necessary stuff. Anyways, I'm filming track tomorrow for outside filming.

May 26th

Today I worked on a weird video with Tyler for a bit, since I was done with everything, Charles was wrapping up the band segment for vid announcements, which are done now and look totally awesome. The HD cameras look great. So, now I've just got to do some outside filming... which I think I shall do this weekend for the State track meet.

5/21

SUCCESS! The filming for vid announcements went really well. We are capturing now and editing should take no time at all since its one continuos shot the whole time.

5/19

Well, the filming didn't go well. It didn't even happen. We had trouble setting up the sound since it's kinda complicated, AND it started raining where we were shooting. So, today was kind of a wash. Try again thursday...

5/18

I finished editing my superball video, it looks sweet.

On tuesday we're gonna film the vid announcement piece.

May 13

Toooooday I worked on my unicorn noir and finished two more scenes and got the voice over for them. For some reason the snowball recorded them quietly but I figured out how to jack up the volume using an audio filter up to where I needed, and it actually sounded really clear and good.

Tyler and I are filming an awesome video friday, an 80's style expose of a bouncy ball championship. It's gonna be rad. Then this tuesday Charles and I are filming our epic video announcement piece.

May 5

Today I exported my short story and turned that in, as well as finished filming and editing your little transition you asked for. You might not like it, but I love it. If not, I will redo it and just keep this for myself. KEEP AN OPEN MIND!

Anyways, yep.

may 1st

I finished editing El Transvestido de la Rampa (our short story) today, and now all I have to do is export it to a quicktime file and turn it in on monday. It turned out far better than I thought it would (if you remember, at one point I asked if we could just switch scripts, but our final product is actually really cool.)

Next week hopefully Charles and I can start filming our vid announcement pieces.

4-29-09

Today I edited more for the film, but a lot of wacky stuff happened with the capturing, and I think we finally got it figured out. it looks like somehow all my edited stuff disappeared though after capturing... I'm hoping that's not true. I'll try and figure that out.

April 27

Today I created the animated section for our short story to give to everyone in my group for eric's character's little flashback. I also created a song for the beauty pageant segment of the story, and I finished editing that section of the movie. Hopefully next class I can make a big advance and almost finish the movie.

4-23-09

Today we filmed A LOT for the short story, and we are capturing it now. It looks good, we had access to a lot of props and stage stuff since we filmed on the actual stage, and we got some good acting. I'm feeling good about it.

4-21

We basically went back and forth today within our group arguing about what we were going to do and the group out voted me and decided we were still going to do what we were before I.E. me in a dress.

So.

That's what we are doing I guess. Next class we are filming the pageant scene and this weekend we are going to get all of our footage so that next week can be spent hardcore editing.

Ughhhhh.

4/17/09

Today I began working on a new story about a unicorn detective in a film noir world.

I animated a unicorn in a fedora and got his mouth to talk, we will see where it goes.

On tuesday we are going to film more for the short story.

4/16/09

Today I worked out all the little glitches in the Three Sailors that I could and exported it along with my Anti-Ad for the Film Festival, filled out all my forms and submitted everything. Let's hope it does well!

What I filmed for outside filming

I filmed March 28th for the Kent Meridian Track invite and on April 2nd for the Kentwood track meet. I captured the footage on Wiley's drive, because he wants to do stuff with it.

Monday, April 13, 2009

today...

I tried to clean up my rough finished version of the three sailors, just little audio issues and visual glitches. Should finish next class and have it all ready for the dvd.

Finished and captured all my outside filming.

Spring Break

DEAR GOD IT'S FINALLY DONE! I finished the Three Sailors just now and it is amazing. I am extremely proud of it, clocking in at around 13 minutes long. As you watch the movie, you can see how I grew with Motion, my animations get bolder and better as the story goes on. I am now just waiting on some minor components from some other people and it will be ready for the DVD for the film festival. I am extremely excited and it turned out better than I had even hoped.

April 2

Today I finished a rather complicated scene for me, which got me involved in creating a shadow, silhouette effect for the first time. I am super happy with what I came up with. Basically, I found a picture of a side profile of a man, photshopped it so I only had the form, then turned down the opacity. The effect is awesome. I learned a lot from it.

I'm filming outside filming today at the track meet, which will mean I've met my quota.

Over break I'm hopefully going to finish Three Sailors and begin on our short story, as well as record some music of my own on the laptop.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

3/31

Today I worked on a scene from Three Sailors trying to get the layout right in motion.

I filmed track this weekend for outside filming.

Next class I will be rendevouzing with my short story group to get that figured out.

Friday, March 27, 2009

Whatever today is...

Today I worked out a bunch of audio problems with my Three Sailors project. My songs mysteriously would not import to Final Cut, and it was quite upsetting. I worked a way around it though by emailing myself the song from the same computer (I think I tricked the computer by doing that or something.) I also figured out how to fix the audio levels on my narration that I recorded by using the Apple PeakLimiter filter on Final Cut Pro.

I also tried to write a bit more of our giant combination script, which I will work on and finish this weekend so we can begin filming next week.

For outside filming I am doing two track meets, one tomorrow and another on April 23.

Monday, March 23, 2009

3/23

Today I made a lot of progress on my Three Sailors video, I finished two scenes and found all the soundeffects for them which were more challenging this time because they were more obscure.

I am going to film our track meet on march 28th and april 23

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

March 10

I figure I could use a dolly in my script I wrote, Eugene, for tracking shots as the main character is riding his bike.

Today I worked a bit more on scenes for Eugene, should it be chosen.

Friday, March 6, 2009

March 6th

Today I finally completed my script in class and turned it in. I also transfered my vid pro stuff to hannah's drive, and started a little on my old Three Sailors project. I'm going to begin experimenting with visuals for my script, should it be chosen, so I have some direction.

March 5th

I FINALLY FINISHED MY INTRO'S FOR VIDEO ANNOUNCEMENTS!

I had to arrange a clandestine meeting with Morgan to pick up a laptop for editing but I managed to get it and I've been editing all night, and now I've finally exported them all to individual .mov files so Hannah and Kailyn can insert them in the final timeline sequence easily. GOSH IT FEELS NICE! I think they are super well done and I am very proud of the conceptual aspects of them all as well as the execution. They look great.

I will finish my script tomorrow in class, I am nearly done with it, so I'll have it to turn in then. The day it's due...

But the important thing is, I finished my vid announcement pieces.

WOOHOO!

March 4

I filmed the last of what I needed for the video announcement into and outros and began piecing them all together. I am going to edit them tonight hopefully if I can get a laptop from morgan, which I arranged to do after track practice. I will be doing a lot of ADR tonight and a lot of motion type stuff to finish up the fake infomercial intro. It should be cool.

I will be filming track for outside filming near the end of march.

Monday, March 2, 2009

March 2

Today we filmed a lot for the intro/outro and we learned how to use the new green screen. The process is going very well and we will get them done for sure before friday I think. Provided there aren't a mass amount of snow days this week. Over the weekend I edited the other pieces we'd filmed and used motion a lot for the cool titles and I used audio dialogue replacement a lot. It sounds great.

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

2/24

Today I filmed 3 of the transitions and I got voice over from tyler as well as footage from motion. I am going to edit with the laptop tonight.

I still don't know what I'm doing for outside filming yet because we don't have the calendar.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

2/11

Today I spent all day getting the last of the voice overs I needed, which was really hard due to the uncooperative equipment. But, we got it, so now I can start moving ahead.

Next class I will start more animating and hopefully get a list of pieces people are doing for the announcements so I can begin the intro/outros.

Monday, February 9, 2009

2/9

Today I completed a new scene for my Three Sailors project and I began a second new one. They look good, and I learned how to use the spin tool on motion to create a realistic looking throwing motion.

I went to check for when I could do outside filming, but we don't have a new calendar... as soon as we get that I will figure that out.

Thursday, February 5, 2009

2/5

Today I finished my sample for the vid announcements and kailyn and hannah approved so I will move forward on that ASAP.

I still don't know what I am doing for outside filming, probably a track event though. I will get that down next class.

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

2/3

Today I filmed the footage for the intro/outro sample that the class wanted to see to test out the feel of it. We are beginning to capture now and I plan to edit through lunch.

I do not know what I am filming for outside filming yet, as I've yet to look at the calendar, I will do this after I finish the sample, which I will have done next class.

Over the weekend, I also got much further in my Three Sailors project, animating five new scenes. I'm awaiting a chance to get new voiceover as soon as possible.

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

1/20

I finished the fourth scene and all the sound design, and after this I have one template type scene and then I can begin FILMING! Will hopefully do that next class.

Thursday, January 15, 2009

1/15

Finished the third scene! It looks great. I learned a new trick in Motion too. In order to make something follow a path of say... a stream, which is an important animation when dealing with ships, you can simply change a feature in the options of the motion path behaviour and make it follow.

gotta go. Sub is telling me to leave. He is hungry.

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

1/13

I finished the second scene today and put it in final cut and added all the sound effects. The project has been slow but is beginning to pick up now that I am getting more acquainted with Motion's complexities and am learning a lot as I go. The next couple scenes should go quicker and soon I should be able to film and record voice over dialogue.

Friday, January 9, 2009

1/9

I have been finishing up the opening scene for a while, the motion project is getting quite complex but I am progressing everyday. I've totally got a new respect for special effects artists. I will have the opening done today and can move on to new backdrops which should take less time and go quicker. I've begun to write the narrator's script so I have a guideline as to where I'm going and hopefully I can build up a base of created material to the point where I can begun to re-use it to expediate the process of creating the motion files. For example, I spent a lot of time constructing my ship for the film, and now that it's made, I can re-use that (it will be featured a lot) without having to spend anymore time building it.
